If you’re heading to the University of Tennessee and thinking about joining a sorority, it’s never too early to start preparing.

UTK sorority recruitment takes place in the fall, and the process begins well before you arrive on campus. There are several pieces of the registration process that allow sororities to learn more about you before you ever have your first in-person conversation.

That means your registration, short-answer questions, social media, résumé and recruitment video all deserve some thought.

The good news? You don’t have to become someone you’re not to prepare well.

When Is University of Tennessee Sorority Recruitment 2027?

University of Tennessee sorority recruitment is held in the fall, before or around the beginning of the academic year.

The exact dates for 2027 have not been released, so keep an eye out as registration information becomes available.

While you’re waiting for the official schedule, there is plenty you can do. In fact, getting the preparation done early can make the entire recruitment experience feel much less overwhelming.

How Many Sororities Are at the University of Tennessee?

UT Knoxville currently has 14 Panhellenic sororities.

That gives PNMs a lot of opportunities to find a chapter that feels like the right fit.

The newest sorority in the UT Panhellenic community is Alpha Gamma Delta, which returned to campus in 2024.

With 14 chapters to get to know, remember that recruitment isn’t about figuring out which sorority is considered the “best.” It’s about finding women you genuinely connect with and a community where you can see yourself being happy.

What Do You Need for UTK Sorority Recruitment Registration?

Registration is one of the most important parts of your early recruitment preparation.

At UTK, your registration includes several opportunities to tell the sororities about yourself. You’ll share information about your activities, leadership, interests and experiences.

You’ll also have short-answer questions to complete.

These questions are important because they allow your personality to come through in a way that a list of activities can’t.

Take your time with them.

Think about what makes you unique, what you enjoy, what you’ve learned from your experiences and what you would want someone to know about you before meeting you.

You don’t need to sound like you’re writing a college essay. Your answers should feel natural and sound like you.

Your Recruitment Résumé

UTK also gives PNMs the opportunity to upload a résumé as part of the registration process.

Your recruitment résumé is a chance to highlight the things you’ve been involved in throughout high school.

Think about:

• Clubs and organizations
• Community service
• Employment
• School activities
• Awards
• Volunteer work
• Hobbies and interests

Don’t assume something doesn’t count because it doesn’t sound impressive enough.

Maybe you worked at a restaurant. Maybe you babysat throughout high school. Maybe you played soccer for eight years. Maybe you were involved in student government or volunteered at an animal shelter.

These experiences help tell your story.

The goal isn’t to create the most impressive résumé possible. It’s to give the sororities a better understanding of who you are and what you’ve been involved in.

Don’t Forget About Your Social Media

Your social media is another part of your recruitment preparation that shouldn’t be ignored.

Sorority members may see your social media before you meet them, so take a look at your accounts with fresh eyes.

Does your social media represent you well?

You don’t need to completely change your personality or create a fake version of yourself. Instead, make sure your public accounts reflect the person you want others to see.

This is good advice whether you’re going through sorority recruitment or not. Your social media can follow you into college, internships, jobs and future opportunities.

The UTK Recruitment Video

One of the things that makes UTK recruitment different is the video component of registration.

PNMs complete a short recruitment video that gives the sororities another opportunity to get to know you before recruitment begins.

And because the video is short, you don’t need to tell your entire life story.

Think about what you want someone to remember about you.

You want the video to feel comfortable and natural. You don’t need a complicated production, and you definitely don’t want it to sound like you’ve memorized a speech.

Choose a setting where you feel comfortable, pay attention to lighting and sound, and make sure you’re presenting yourself in a way that feels authentic.

Most importantly, don’t wait until the last minute to record it.

What Happens During UTK Sorority Recruitment?

UTK recruitment includes several rounds, and each one gives you a different opportunity to learn about the chapters.

Go Greek

The process begins with the Go Greek portion of recruitment, which allows PNMs to learn more about the participating chapters.

This is also where your early preparation matters because the sororities have already had the opportunity to learn some things about you through your registration materials.

Philanthropy

Philanthropy gives you the opportunity to learn more about what each sorority cares about and the organizations they support.

You’ll also have conversations with sorority members.

Pay attention to the conversations, but don’t put so much pressure on yourself to say the “right” thing.

Sisterhood

Sisterhood is a chance to learn more about what life inside each chapter is actually like.

You may hear about academics, activities, leadership, housing, traditions and the relationships members have with one another.

Think about what matters to you.

Preference

Preference is the final and most personal round of recruitment.

You’ll have more meaningful conversations and get a deeper look at the chapters you’re considering.

By this point, you should be thinking less about what you believe you’re supposed to choose and more about where you genuinely feel comfortable.

What About Recommendation Letters?

Recommendation letters can be confusing because the expectations are different from school to school.

At UTK, they are not something you need to panic about.

Individual sororities may have their own policies about recommendations, so if you have someone who knows you well and can provide one, that’s great.

I do typically recommend a letter of recommendation for every chapter.

Your focus should be on preparing the parts of recruitment that are actually in your control.

What GPA Do You Need?

Academics are important during sorority recruitment.

You don’t need a perfect GPA to participate in recruitment, but your academic record can affect your opportunities during the process.

A strong academic record is always an advantage, so continue to focus on your grades while you’re preparing for college.

Remember that your GPA is only one part of your overall recruitment story.

How Should You Prepare for UTK Sorority Recruitment?

The best thing you can do is start early.

Before recruitment arrives, take the time to:

Create your recruitment résumé. Highlight the activities and experiences that are important to you.

Review your social media. Make sure your public presence represents you well.

Think about your conversations. Be ready to talk about your interests, experiences and the things you genuinely enjoy.

Plan your wardrobe. Knowing what you need ahead of time will make recruitment week much easier.

You Don’t Need to Reinvent Yourself

This may be the most important thing I can tell you about sorority recruitment.

You don’t need to create a new version of yourself for recruitment.

You don’t need to suddenly become interested in things because you think sorority women will like them.

You don’t need the longest résumé.

You don’t need the perfect social media account.

And you don’t need to memorize a list of answers.

Instead, preparation should help you feel comfortable talking about who you already are.

The goal is to walk into recruitment feeling confident enough to let your personality come through.
